  1. Did you know that Balinese people usually have 1 of the following 4 names? Most Balinese are named Wayan, Made, Nyoman or Ketut.
  2. There is a good reason why Bali is known as the "Island of the Gods". Bali has almost 20,000 temples and shrines.
  3. Indonesia is a Muslim country but 9 out of 10 Balinese are actually Hindus
  4. Bali has an active volcano. Mount Agung last erupted in 1963.
  5. Bali has not one but three historical and cultural sites listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
  6. Bali is home to the world's most expensive coffee. Kopi Luwak is made from coffee beans which have been eaten by the Asian Palm Civet, and then passed through its digestive system. This is a not so pleasant process for many but nevertheless, makes it a unique coffee without a taste of bitterness. A cup of Kopi Luwak coffee can cost as much as US$100 in cafes in North America and Europe.
  7. Most Balinese people speak at least three languages: Balinese, Indonesian and English.
  8. Meat lovers should keep an eye out for signs picturing pigs saying "Babi Guling". Babi Guling is a local version of suckling pig, this delicious dish can often be found outside the main tourist areas, so keep an eye out for road signs with a pictured pig!
  9. Indonesia has many islands! Bali is only one of over 17,000 islands that make up Indonesia.
  10. In 2010 Bali won the Travel + Leisure award as the "Best Island" in the world. Millions of tourists every year cannot be wrong when they book their Bali holiday packages.
