About Arabian Peninsula
UNITED ARAB EMIRATESThe United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a union of seven sovereign sheikhdoms including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, formed when the British withdrew from the Gulf in 1971. It boasts mountains, beaches, deserts, oases, camel racing, markets and the renowned duty-free shopping of dazzling Dubai - all packed into a relatively small area.
Arabic is the official language but English is widely understood. With its massively multicultural population, UAE is one of the most liberal and pluralistic countries in the Gulf region. It has gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years, with a buoyant economy that's slowly reducing its reliance on oil revenues.
