About Africa

How do you capture the essence of Africa on paper without using up every cliche in the book? No other continent comes close to it for scale, variety and pure, raw impact. Africa offers a travel experience like no other.
Africa's natural history alone would make a dozen visits worthwhile - where else on earth can you fall asleep to the sound of lions roaring, or watch a million flamingos take off from the waters of a remote soda lake? Parts of Africa boast scenery so spectacular it will surprise and amaze you.
It's the spirit of the people - pushing, shoving, sweating, dancing, singing and laughing - that infects so many visitors with a travel bug so powerful they'll never stop coming back.
Africa is a fantastic, enlightening, surprising and intriguing continent. Whether you're a hardened African veteran or a wide-eyed first timer, this is a continent that cannot fail to get under your skin.

Travelling in Africa
"In Africa you do not ask how far a place is, you ask how long it will take to get there". That's a good philosophy when you are travelling in Africa. Polite conversation between strangers is very important in many African societies. If you ask someone "is it far?" the answer will often be "no, it is not far". Nobody wants to disappoint you with bad news. It's just not polite or friendly. So go off on the beaten track, drive on the wine route, take a train or fly between the cities, however you travel, remember you are on African time.

What to do
The main attractions in Africa are the wildlife parks, the deserts, the beaches and mountains and forest full of wildlife. There is something for everyone. Africa has a very rich and diverse culture and there are many festivals, music shows, visual art, spectacular architecture, sport events, stunning scenery every which way you turn and the urban centres have excellent shopping centres.

Come on a safari
Who wouldn't want to experience the African wilderness. There is no better way to see the beauty of Africa than on a Safari. Wing your way from Kruger National Park to the mighty Victoria Falls. You can mingle with the world's largest elephant population and enjoy some of the best water-based game viewing along the Chobe River! Or you could drift down the winding waterways of the incomparable Okavango Delta, spotting wildlife along the way. Cross the flat plains of the Serengeti and over the intimidating Mount Kilimanjaro. Accommodation can be in 5 star tented camps, luxury lodges or in elegant huts on private game reserves. You haven't experienced the real Africa if you have not seen the Big Five.

Where in the World
Africa is south of Asia and Europe, west of Australia, east of South America and north of Antarctica. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, both the Suez Canal and the Red Sea along the Sinai Peninsula to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Africa is the world's second largest and second most populous continent after Asia. At about 30.2 million km including adjacent islands, it covers 6% of the Earths total surface area and 20.4% of the total land area.
